Mpc 500 live

hi every one!
I`ll appreciate if someone helps me!!!
I actually have been messing around for almost 2 months with my mpc 500 and i still learning!
Today i tried to plug it in into a Dj mixer with more than 4 channels to play live with a friend. I used the rca connectors and it works but unfortunately it didn't sound very lough?! What can i do? Do i have to amplify he mpc sound?

YES. You will need to run the MPC through an amplifier if your mixer does not come with pre-amps.

Are you certain on the DJ mixer you had it setup properly?

The right phono/line settings?

No EQ/FX parameters on? No kill switches?

No weird crossfader settings... just dead center?

The mixer levels were up?

Any trim settings that weren't set properly?

You really shouldn't need a pre-amp to use with the MPC/DJ combo. I'd think you might have a different problem. If your DJ buddy normally runs Phono in, that can be a completely different set of parameters to set than to use line in from the MPC.

Perhaps on the MPC check your sample levels in program mode (default 70 I think? Maybe turn those up).

The MPC also doesn't default to global 0db output, check if you're at -12db or something and maybe bump that up.

i made that all ready and that didn`t work , they was all on 70

where can i check that? sorry for my ignorance hehehe

ins`t running the mpc in stereo when i plug it in into the dj mixer via rca?

ok i checked the 0db output and set it to 0db because it seems to be playing laughter until then !! Isn`t it good to have it on 0db? what else can i do to improve the output sound from my mpc? i haven`t try again with the dj mixer but i will very soon , so i need to learn a bit more about the mpc sound preference!

The problem with running at 0db is that you leave yourself no headroom, so if your signal gets too loud you end up with digital clipping which can sound pretty horrible or awesome, depending on what you are doing.

Do you have the same problem when you hook other audio gear into the mixer, such as a cd player or something?

Also... are you using the headphone outs or are you using the L/R 1/4" jack?

Turn down the volume on the other channels. Turn the master volume up.
If that doesn't do it, get this:


It's a really good preamp with extra warmth.

I need that... if for no other reason than I love tube warmth and don't have anything with stereo tube gain anymore...

It's the sonic equivalent of butter...

Sure it's completely unnecessary calories, and it will not help your waste line... but it definitely makes a lot of things go down that much smoother.
