MPC 500 stuck on 'startup' page

ive just got my old mpc 500 out again, when i turn it on it stops on the initial 'startup' page but doesnt move on.

does anyone have any advice on how to reboot or get it to move past this?

i have tried turning it on holding the 'erase' button, but it doesnt help.

Ensure that the ram (if any is installed) is installed the correct way.

a user on these forums named "phono" suggested the following to one user who had the same issue you had

Phono wrote:make sure you have full power on the batteries or use a power supply then hold the erase/undo button as you turn on the power, should fix it

Perhaps when it stuck on "startup" page there is a strange sound???
