HELP-screen reads "MPC500 (0 MB) on startup

it had a third party RAM chip for 6 months or so which has been working fine.

any ideas?

Try uninstalling and reinstalling the ram

Im using Akai's ram so I cant speak for 3rd party retail models, but also did you recently drop the mpc or was something dropped onto it?

cheers for reply. i tried that, popped it out and put it back in. no change.

hasn't had a knock that i'm aware of.
the only odd thing was when i took it out of the bag last, it was powered on, running off the batteries.
not sure for how long, but the last time i'd used it was 4-5 days before. hardly lasted that long- could it?

try reinstalling OS?

use rubbing alcohol to clean the ram contacts.
