Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500
By righthanded J Sun Jun 27, 2010 1:35 am
Hey, i just got my 500 yesterday and i only got 16mb ram. I understand that the preloaded samples and sequenses are taking a lot of space from my RAM so i cant load many samples of my own, have i got it right? I have also formated my CF card.

Now to the question, How do i delete those pre loaded sequences and samples? Ive read on the forum that u have to overwrite it with a new folder, but i cant figure out how to do it.

so what i want to do is basically delete everything on the mpc.

hope someone can help me!
Peace

consider to buy a 2Gb card, it' a paradise... with 16 mb you're in hell .... :)

anyway it's easy to clear your card
1) connect your mpc to pc using usb cable
2) go to mode/load and rotate the wheel full clockwise to reach 'connect to usb' command
3) wait for the connection...
4) drag & drop the original mpc files to the pc to save them
5) delete all the files on the card

hope it helps

Thanks for the answer man, but ive allready done that, i got a 125mb CF card, but only 16mb RAM. And all those pre loaded programs and samples and sequences are taking a lot o space on the RAM so i cant load so many of my own samples, the MPC just says "Insufficient Memory".
So i wanna get rid of all those "sq:01_top_gun" and "sq:02-CDS" and "sq:03-DH_HIP_HOP" and all that crap.

But thanks anyway for the answer :)

turning autoload off is in the manual

that doesn´t delete the presets..

i thik you can replace te presets by your own created program,so you need not to save to cf but to internal ram.

heres how your mpc works, when you boot up your mpc, 16MBs of RAM boots up blank.. if you have autoload turned on than the mpc will load up presets and eat up a chunk of your available 16MBs. by turning off autoload, the presets wont be loaded and you will remain with a blank 16MB canvas.. deleting the presets will have no effect toward gaining more space to work with.. your two choices are turn off autoload or purchase the 128MB upgrade... leave the presets alone ...

i think the first thing that people need to learn about their mpc is that RAM = sample time.. thats it.. you dont save to your RAM, there are no preloaded sounds on your RAM.. everytime you trun off your mpc the RAM is cleared..

128MB = 11m 44s of stereo sample time..
16MB = 68s of stereo sample time..

the thing i remember the most about only having 16MB was the inability to create new programs from a chopped sample without getting the "insufficient memory" error.. instead of creating a new program i had to export each chop individually, assign, then PURGE the original sample..

This actually has me thinking, when I got my mpc500, i turned off autoload off. I just turned it back on tonight and realized that the factory samples are still there.. I've read over the manual and now I'm really confused cause if the samples are still showing up, that means they're still in there.. :(

Quit being a cheapskate and cop the 128MB of RAM. Oh and shell out for the e-book where this question is answered and sooooooo many others that will crop up while learning this machine.
