MPC500 and external pad controller

Hi

a friend of mine is thinking of buying an MPC500, that he wants to use in combination with an external pad controller like the Alesis Ion IEAD04 or something like it.

Has anybody here used the MPC500 in this manner (external pad controlling the MPC in real time for live performance)? Does it work well?

It is unlikely that he'll be able to try out this configuration before he buys it.

I know its possible because there cats on here that MIDI their MPCs to electronic drum sets like V Drums and they trigger the samples on the MPC from their drum set.

I think you'll have better luck finding the answer if you post this at the MPC studio enviroments forums, there's about 3 members that do this.

I'm thinking that each different instrument, or even drum pad can do this. Much like anything else, when you route a note via midi, it's is sending a note like C3 - B3 whatever, to trigger the pad. You just have to set the pad to the note that you want to trigger it. My keyboard is an M-Audio Axiom 25, and when I hook it up, changing the octaves on it changes the range of notes, and triggers the specific sound.

Thanks Sm0keydaBear. Yes I'm thinking there shouldn't be a problem with this setup, just wanted to get confirmation from people who had tried it, as I wouldn't like to give bad advice to my friend (who's also in my band ).

Do you know exactly what hardware he wants to hook up to the MPC 500?

Like the Alesis gives a huge range... so the general answer will be yes from anybody you care to ask.

Of course if you know exactly what you'd hook up to the MPC 500 there may be people with some specific experience with that combination that could give you a heads up or warning if there are any issues.
