What connections would I need to sync my midi keyboard and MPC500 up with Pro Tools via MIDI? Would a M-Audio USB Midisport Uno MIDI Interface suffice or would I need something like this http://www.esi-audio.com/products/m4uxl/

the midisport uno should do just fine. you'll have to use midi soft thru on your mpc so you can link equipment, and that's that.

So both the keyboard and mpc would be slaved to Pro Tools? and would I just connect the MIDI/OUT from the keyboard into my USB UNO to the computer? leaving the MIDI/IN of the UNO unplugged?

why would you leave the midi/in of the uno unplugged? that's where you connect your hardware's midi out to.
i assume you want something like that:
you have your midi keyboard. you want to control your mpc with it and maybe softsynths or other stuff in your software, right?
that means you plug your keyboard's midi out into your mpc's midi in. activate soft thru. connect the mpc's midi out to your UNO midi in.
next connect your uno's midi out to the keyboard's midi in so that you can play back your recorded midi date and hence control the keyboard/mpc with it.

I want to track my MPC and Keyboard recordings via MIDI in Pro Tools. I would like to use the keyboard as a controller for the synths in Pro Tools so I can use the keys. The USB UNO isn't long enough to connect the MIDI/IN into the MIDI/OUT of keyboard and MIDI/OUT to MIDI/IN of MPC. It looks like this

I also thought the MIDI UNO was supposed to link up MIDI/IN with MIDI/IN?

hmm well i can't help you about the length of your cables, maybe get some sort of extension? from that point, a usb interface where you use your own cables might be more useful.
as for the connecting: nope, in goes to out and vice versa.
what you want to do can be done with setting it up just as i described in my previous posting.

Hey thanks for your time and advice, but with some reading I don't think its possible. To clear up the confusion we had about how the MIDI Uno's cables should be connected, on each it sais, "TO MIDI/IN" and "TO MIDI/OUT". Its obvious where it goes I was just being dumb, midi sometimes has me goin in circles.

Anyways,
It sais this is the manual "• Important note: Uno is not a MIDI THRU device and as such, MIDI data received at Uno’s MIDI in port can never be sent directly to the MIDI out
plug of the Uno. However, data received at the MIDI In can be transmitted from the computer to the MIDI Out of your Uno."

So will enabling soft thru on the MPC work or not? I connected everything together as you explained, but when I play the keys on my keyboard, it triggers the sounds in the MPC as well, so I have 2 sounds going on. Do i just turn the volume all the way down on the MPC?.

I want to use the sounds in the keyboard, using the keyboard; also being able to control sound modules in pro tools with the keyboard as you said. I then want my MPC to trigger sounds I put on the CF card. I just want them all to be sync'd to pro tools.

About the midi thru:
It doesn't matter that Uno is no Midi thru device.
You just want to use it to record the midi signals and then at some point, play them back.
Thru is only needed for equipment that is in the middle of your midi-signal chain.

Normally, your keyboard will trigger the sounds in your mpc, yea.
What you can do, for example, is: hit mode -> midi/sync on your mpc and scroll further right, then set 'recieve channel' to '2' for example. Now you'll only trigger your mpc sounds if your midi keyboard is sending data on that channel. (i guess you can set that up on your midi keyboard, but... yea i'm only guessing here).

Or, of course, just turn the volume down for the moment. But i guess you'll want to use the mpc, too, so try my method and lemme know if it worked out ^^

There are multiple ways you can configure your MPC for use with Pro Tools. Listed below are the various ways you can accomplish this with various models of the MPC. To use this page most efficiently, scroll down until you find the instructions for the model that you own.

NOTES:
1) If using an Mbox or Mbox 2 Mini, a Digidesign MIDI I/O or third-party USB-MIDI interface must be installed on the computer for all of the listed configurations.
2) All of the configurations below require you to properly set the tempo in Pro Tools and in the MPC. For instructions on how to do this, see the instructions at the bottom of this page.
3) It is recommended to be on the latest version of the operating system for your MPC. This is required for the MPC2500 in order for it to use MIDI Time Code.

For triggering the MPC500 using MIDI Beat Clock with Pro Tools as the master device:
NOTE: (The only type of sync the MPC500 has and can use is MIDI Beat Clock.)
1) Use a MIDI cable to connect the MIDI OUT of your Digidesign hardware (or M-Audio if using M-Powered) to the MIDI Input of the MPC500.

In the MPC500:
2) Go to the "MIDI/Sync" menu.
3) Use the "Data" wheel to change the sync mode to “Slave”.

In Pro Tools:
4) Set your tempo in Pro Tools. (See instructions at the bottom of this page.)
5) Go to the Setup menu and choose MIDI Beat Clock. Check the boxes for "Enable MIDI Beat Clock" and the corresponding MIDI output port.

Setting your tempo in Pro Tools.
You can do this by either of the following methods:
1) Go to the “View” menu, highlight “Rulers” and choose “Tempo”. Click on the plus symbol (+) that appears next to where it says “Tempo” and then manually enter in the desired Tempo.
2) In the Pro Tools Transport window, de-select “Tempo Ruler Enable” (easily recognized as the blue Conductor icon) and either manually type in the desired tempo or use the tempo slider to set the desired tempo.

NOTES:
1) When using MIDI Beat Clock with Pro Tools as the master device, the MPC will be set to the tempo that you have Pro Tools set to.
2) When using MIDI Time Code (MTC), you will have to manually set the tempos in the MPC and Pro Tools to the same tempo.
