MPC and Ipod

Hello again

I take my MPC500 around with me a lot (very reliable) and I wanted to use my Ipod for sampling on the go. Personally, this would be most ideal because you can't take turntables everywhere you go. Yea, sure you could use portable CD player but I fear that I've been sucked into the digital media scheme. I support physical media too but when I am on the go, not many options.

With that said, I was having a hard time understanding how to connect an Ipod to an MPC500. I have a 3 split cable with 2 RCA (1/4) ends and one headphone (1/8) jack end. I just assume you use the standard set up from input ports (line).
Is this possible?

Yep. Standard input should do the trick. Should you need to boost the sound, there will always be the option of a portable headphone amp..

The combination of the two portable technologies opens up vast opportunity to become inspired in a myriad of influential environments..

In other words.. SWEET!

Alot of people get picky over the bitrate/quality of MP3's.. I say who cares.. Nobody will really notice, and the artistic convenience rules over the quality IMO.

Do I have to do anything extra for this external connection? It doesn't seem to be working. Perhaps SYNC?

Maybe I am confused...

You just want to sample the MP3 player as you would a record player right?

You have it plugged into the Input on the MPC, and what happens?

You go to record mode and there is no signal?

If I recall the manual says [line] input was to be used, but recently I channeled to [mic] input and it significantly increased the volume. Do they both produce the same quality?

yup, i sampled from my iphone a lot, it`s pretty much the same thing.

hint for iphone users: there`s this app called confession where people confess random shiat and you can listen to random recorded stuff... and if you get bored you can try and find something to sample, there`s a lot of funny stuff and voice samples you can also use for scratching if you got turntables and serato

No need to compromise quality:

1-Sample your Vinyls in WAV/Download FLAC Albums/Rip CDs

2-Convert your ISH to Apple lossless (FULLY SUPPORTED by Itunes and Ipods).

3-Make special playlists of sampling material on your IPOD!

Should the size be an issue, just get creative and sample only parts of the songs.

Edit: Didn't expect external devices to kill 6 AA batteries off so quickly.
Ugh, it's nice to have for important situations, like "oh shit, I don't have time to chop this sample up, but I'd like to show it to a friend" or something like that.

I guess it's just best to get a upgraded CF card and just save chopped samples instead of doing it on the fly. That or just bringing your power adapter with you since it's really not much extra weight.

Shittttt, I need to invest in a power adaptor. Some sites sell them for around $15-25 so it's not that much of a big deal.

The iPod shouldn't be sucking any power from the MPC AFAIK... ??

You get almost twice the battery life with the backlight OFF.

I use rechargeable batteries and a "Family Charger". Works pretty good, but the batteries do go bad after charging them alot.

You must have bought the 500 used then huh? No power adapter..

Its a must have.
