how should i record my vocals to projects on mpc500?

i'm not worried about the mic or mic set up for now just best practice to record. The 2 ways i can think of are a) convert sequences to song file, then record it as one long sample and then record my verse and patch over it, or b) record bars to corresponding sequences and then convert to song file?

both of which sound long as hell so if there's a simpler way which escapes me, I'm all ears...

So do you mean record vocals on the 500?

I tried it a couple times, worked ok in a pinch I guess.

What I did was built a song, then converted it to a single wav file..

Next, I created a new project so the only wav file was the beat (to save sample time).

Then, I put the beat on track 1, and recorded everything else on separate tracks (using a single sequence)..

--Sequence 01--

Track1-Beat
Track2-Verse
Track3-Hook
Track4-Verse2
Track5-Overdubs
etc..

IF, you are NOT talking about recording vocs on the MPC then I suppose you can follow the same method with DAW etc...

Don't really see a simpler way to do this...

A DAW is definitely the best way to go in this case. For something really quick, just get your beat set-up exactly like you want it then convert it to a wav file. Next, drop that (or record it) into your DAW as one track. On a separate track, record your vocals. (You might even want another track for overdubs or whatever.) It's all pretty basic stuff - especially if you're not planning on making anything too serious.

I'll try to do the workflow stated by BGREEN and post my experience in this thread sometimes . .

Here goes:

I make a beat on one sequence with up to 72 bars or more on track 1. Then when I'm done, I hook up the preamp and mic to the 500, put it in record mode, hit play to play the beat and then record my verses. Assign my verses to pads and overdub them to track 2.

I tried this on my friend's 500 and the sequence stopped when I was about to spit. Could be the OS, but I'm on 1.31 and its a dope feature.

Yah, I'm just recording the verse and trimming the silence when I record vocals. It's a lot easier to do it that way. Other than that, you can record verse by verse and just assign each verse to a pad. So, Verse - Chorus - Verse 2 - Chorus (2) - Verse 3 - Chorus (3) - Overdub so 6 pads in all.
