hey, i just bought myself an mpc500, i have now managed to put all the sounds i want on my sound card, to load the sound i click load, sample, select the sample i want, preview, assign to pad then when it assigns to pad it doesn't seem to play on the pad! i tried playing with params as i thought it may be a problem but i still cant get the sounds to sound! this is so frustrating, for those of you that know, please let me know where i'm going wrong, thanks

I can think of a couple of problems. If your samples aren't 16-bit wav files, I think you can assign them to pads but I don't think they'll play on the 500. When you scroll to a sample and hit play, you should be able to preview the file. If it doesn't sound, this might be your problem. You can check the bit-rate in Windows, and this is a common problem for users who have purchased from professional sample libraries (which are now starting to mostly come in 24-bit resolution). You can also test whether it's a sample problem by recording a small snippet of sound using the MPC and assigning it to a pad. If it works then it's not your pads, but a problem with the sample.

Other things might be,

- hit the 'full level' button on the 500. This will automatically interpret the hit as full velocity.
- Finally, stupid but...make sure you're speakers or headphones are hooked up properly.

Good luck.

or it could be, that you're not in the right bank while assigning the samples. check the letter in the top right corner of your display.
