Play a bass line but not trigger the 500 samples?

So I'm into sequencing bass lines with my mpc500 triggering an external synth.

Is there a way to sequence a bass line without triggering the samples in the mpc 500? I could remap the samples and change the notes in all of the patterns, but that is a huge pain. I thought changing the track type to midi would do what I want, but it doesn't seem to do anything.

Any help would be great.

Figured it out. I had to assign the track parameter "Program assign" to off.
