is midi interface essential to sync mpc with software?

have an mpc 500 , want to use it with some software but didnt know a midi interface would be so expensive

Load SMPTE .wav and set it to play from the start panned left. Pan everything else to the right. Set your software to sync to the SMPTE timecode from that input. Then when you press play on the MPC it should sync, but you only get 1 mono output.

Or you could just pay the $30 for a USB<->MIDI cable.
