I'm trying to determine if the MIDI ports on my 500 are working or not. Neither Live nor FL Studio get any MIDI signal from the 500. Ideally, I'd like to set it as Master and sync it with Live. Using the same MIDI cable and port on my interface, I can get MIDI signals from my ESP. I've followed the manual, and it's set up correctly. Even trying to set Live as the Master and the 500 as slave doesn't seem to do anything. Should the tempo in the 500 read 'Ext' when it is set to slave? Any ideas on what to try or any ways to verify it's not working?

well it turns out I must have knocked an internal connector loose when investigating my screen the other day. the connector just left of the screen right below the midi ports was not seated properly and after pushing it all the way in the midi now works correctly.

i've similar troubles with midi... i take a look to the service manual but it's not in deep to let me find something under the lcd.

is there any tutorial or what else to change the lcd? or you just find your way investigating?

mpc500 working great before changing the main board, basicly for sequencing external synth and some drum samples, seems everything is ok
