Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

One of the things I want to use the MPC for is as a backing track for synths and samples in a metal band.

I've begun building sequences but I can't seem to find an option anywhere to send the click to phones only or pan l/r or anything.

I only want the drummer to get the click. If I could pan it that would be fine or if I could send it to the headphone out either of those would do.

I think you're out of luck unless you are using an MPC with multiple assignable outputs.

You could as a workaround I think hard pan the click to one channel if you can live with the MPC outputting in mono. Drummers phones would probably go in the hard panned output that has the click (left probably), or send that that click out to a mixer.

I don't work with live players or instruments so I'm just looking at it theoretically, but it should work.

To do it without those limitations you'll need a 1000, 2500 or a 2000/XL or 4000 with an output expansion board installed.

Yeah I think you'd need to have all your sound mono. I think what Tapedeck is saying is make one of the Programs a click sound so that you have something to hard pan for your drummer's cans.

Take the MIDI out from the MPC and plug into another MIDI device near the drummer , then slave it to the MPC's clock. Whatever that device does (play sounds, beep, flash a BPM indicator, etc.) will now be in time to the MPC and only the drummer would see/hear it.
