Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

Hi,

I want to start (and then stop) sequences playing on my MPC500 with a midi foot pedal (Behringer FCB1010). So essentially I want to have one pedal on the FCB1010 that will make the MPC500 play whatever sequence is currently open (same as the play start button) and one pedal on the FCB1010 that will stop it (same as stop button). I had imagined that I would be able to send a controller change message (or something similar) from the FCB1010 that would do this, but I am struggling to work out if the MPC500 responds to this, and what type of message I would need to send. Controller change messages are something I've not dealt with before is it's all unclear to me.

Anyone have any ideas?

Cheers

I don't know for sure, but I don't think play/stop can be triggered by MIDI on the 500.

You may not like this option, but the only thing I can think of is to use the 500 as the foot controller itself--that is place it on the floor and trigger the pads with your toe. You can have the sequence playing all the time and selectively mute and unmute different tracks by pressing the pad with your toe. Here is where the stiffness of the MPC pads actually helps you ;)
