RAM issue

I have a 500 as a travel buddy/backup box so ive never really got to know it inside out. I open up the battery cover and see what looks like a ram chip plugged in. How do I know if the rams installed or not? Nothing comes up on the startup screen like the 2500.. Any way to check the parameters (or whatever) or just check visually?

Keep your eyes on the screen and it'll say whether its 16 MB or 128 MB.

Turn it on and don't go looking for munchies either like a cockroach.

One way to check, is to see how much recording time is available.

In Record Mode, change to Free: display, mine shows 12 minutes 2 seconds available for stereo, 24 minutes 4 seconds available for mono.

That is with a 256MB RAM module, which gives 128MB in the MPC500.

The built in 16MB RAM should give you about 1 minute 8 seconds for stereo, 2 minutes 16 seconds for mono.


Since there is a RAM module in the battery compartment, it would have some sort of expanded RAM.

Nope, doesn't do it on mine!

Thats because you can customize the 500 to show your name when you power it up(Mine says ILL GREEN!). If you set that to default, and power off then on. You'll be able to read how much RAM is on board.
