I dropped my mpc 500 on the floor...

I was too wasted and accidently dropped my 500 from my lap to the floor.

Its still working, but the weird thing is that before it used to start up empty. Now it loads up some random samples and programs at boot. If I load an old track it sounds just the same, but now that Im working on a new one, I get the feeling something happened to it..

The kick sounds like it has a flanger on it! But Im thinking, as the device is digital, all its effects are digital too? So it should either work normally or not at all?¨

Just wanna make sure Im not hallucinating..

how's the floor? it didn't get a dent did it? no chipped tile?



haha, but check in the load screen.. at the end there is an option for turning off the autoload.

Sounds more like you were so wasted you changed some setting without realizing it.
Do a system reset on the unit, then turn the auto load off.

You need to re-initialize the unit since you don't know what you may have changed.

I'm too big to be playing a 500 on my lap. Maybe on one knee though like a banjo.

I would first remove the CF card then reformat the entire 500. All your samples and settings are on that card so don't worry about losing stuff. Check on a PC if your card is intact as well that nothing got corrupted from the fall,

I believe the method to reformat is turning on the unit while holding [ERASE] button. Don't remember but its on the last pages of the manual.

The funny thing is that im like 100 % sure I didnt change it as I had just booted an empty track and started choppin. I leaned over to reach the ashtray and it fell down..

Ok Ive reset the mpc. And it still sounds the same on the kick.. I made a short sample of it so you can hear if you mind..

If I load up an old track and mute all sounds except the kick its constant. The sample above is changing its character from "hit" to "hit"..



EDIT!

Weird.. I just re-recorded the midi for the kick and now it sounds as it should.. Cant make any sense of it but it works at least.. Thanks again for the help
