Layering tracks

Hi There
Using the MPC500 I would like to layer tracks using the same performance data- ie I want to copy a track and reassign what pad is being triggered without going through the step editor and reassigning every hit.  I think I figured out a way using multiple programs, but at this stage multiple programs are a bit unwieldy for me- just wondering if I'm overlooking something Really Easy....

what exactly is it that you are trying to layer? Is there a reason why you are wanting to layer samples by tracks rather than on the pads? If you are not aware, I'll let you know it is possible to have up to 4 layers per pad. Seems like an unnecessary effort of copying the midi info to each track, unless for some reason you'll be muting out the layers at some point in your sequence.

Thanks for responding- Thats actually correct- I want to create multi layer performance data and be able to mute (or delete) various layers at different points in the song--
I know about the different layers on the pads, but I don't think there's a choice of playing different layers at different times...

You can copy tracks and alter them. Even switch the sounds from track 2 into track 3 if you wanted to. Its all there.

yea, it aint that hard, quite easy to copy tracks if u ask me..

The problem for me is not copying the tracks- I agree- that is easy. What I want to do is reassign the pad the track is triggering.

i think I'm kinda missing what you are wanting to do here, u can always make a new program and use a different program on a different track, in this new program u can copy those samples from the program before in…is this helping any??

I was exploring this a bit and no I don't believe their is a dedicated function for this task, it would be tedious to move each note in step edit mode..

BUT I HAVE AN IDEA for you to try out that should be much quicker then that.

For example purposes, I used two kick drums, sequenced them both simultaneously on one track, then copied that information over to track two.

Now all you need to do is erase the unwanted pad information for each one and there you have it. Layers on individual tracks. Much quicker! I hope this helps you some.

^^^^ i do this sometimes with drums, when i wanna get that live performance feel, but don't want it to be all together on one track

There is a dedicated feature to move pads within tracks and its not step edit. I'll have to check it for you but it makes life easier because I had an issue where combining sequences into one and only the first sequence played and the rest was blank. It turned out that in order to sucessfully combine the sequences, I had to have the same pads on the same track, so if I had a snare on track 2, then all sequences must have that snare on Track 2. Because sometimes I create the same sequences but snare for one sequence is on track 1 and for another sequence the snare is on Track 3 etc. Anyway, this feature puts all the sounds in correct tracks for you microwave style. I don't know yet what you mean but hope that helps. I'll be back.

The feature is called Track Move, but Ralphyartis' is vital too.

Track Move moves pads to other tracks.
