Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

I can't tell if my pins are bent or my cf card is incompatible. The 500 I just bought won't read the card but it turns on and loads fine. Also the card seems to fit in and come out with no issue and the pins don't seem bent or anything but every search I've done for cf card issues says bent pin.The card I'm using is a boss br-cf card that came with the go roland sp404.It could be that...please help me out because I honestly hope its the latter and not the former thing I mentioned.

I should clarify the pins are definitely not bent as there is no noise coming from the card reader which is what I've read happens when a pin is bent.Basically the machine works fine until I insert the card and attempt to format...it freezes on both the load and save modes.

No noise coming from card reader does not necessarily mean no bent pins.

With bent pins, no noise comes from the card reader anyway, there is nothing in the card reader to make any noise. Any noise would probably come from the power supply, or other parts in the MPC, if the bent pins short out the power on the CF slot pins. And there are many different pins in the CF slot, different bent pins will do different things to the MPC.

You need to shine a light into the CF slot, and check if you can see any bent pins.

ive ordered one and it should be here soon..will repost if it solves my issue.I should note the cf card I'm using is roland boss sp404 cf card...so its not like it was one that is well know to work for the 500.

Did you hook up the 500 to a PC and read if the card is corrupt from there? Take it out and reformat it in the computer and reinsert back into the 500 to see if that'll do. How many bytes it has?

i did...it works fine on the pc...reformat is supposed to be fat32,right?f so then I did that and it still won't work...its weird because the pins don't look the least bit bent and the card comes in and out without any of them looking any more or less bent or different when I check them again...
