mpc 500 only hear sounds in playback or trim mode

just got an mpc 500 it wont make any sound when hitting the pads only after i record or in trim mode. its pretty useless not being able to hear anything while recording. can someone please help me

trim is for editing the samples you have loaded in the machine... you need to assign those sounds to pads.

there is also a quickstart guide. which is what the manual adverse should read. if you just want to finger drum, that all you need to read is the quickstart manual.

and here are the factory sounds, not very exciting samples, but if you want your mpc to make some sounds. there is a collection of classic drumachine samples in there which is handy to have around.
