Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

Hi,

I have just picked up a "used only once" MPC500 with the Akai 128 RAM today for 240 Euros. I'm very happy with this as I have the original box and the user manual as well. The box is also in mint condition and the manual was never taken out of the sealed bag.

I was doubious about getting the 500 because quite frankly it has been kinda slagged off and dismissed by so many people as a toy and just made out of plastic.

I would like to say I think the build quality is spot on for such a small unit, it feels solid and like a proper instrument should feel.

I got the 500 to use for live gigs as a phrase sampler to fire off my trademark UK Garage vocal stabs. I didn't want to get a Roland SP404 or SP505 because I think the FX are a bit cheesy for vocals.

Congrats on your purchase

You know, there comes a time when a man has to make decisions in his path of life. Some cut off their dicks and jump out the window of the 1st floor attempting suicide, others cry in a puddle at a KFC parking lot. Not you! No sirree! You went out...and got yourself a 500! Bravo! FTW!! Bravo holmes

PS be sure to tap on my signature for an all MPC500 album. Thats right. All MPC500, from the 500 to the CD recorder with nothing in between. Raw pure doggystyle shit.

Cheers fellas.

I'm not new to music scene but new to the MPC. (I have relased over 100 EPs)

I have a few questions about things to do with the little chap. I will post them in a new subject thread.

Bless,

Mokujin

Just got an MPC 500 also. Picked one up on craigslist. after months of constantly checking (I live in Alaska), i picked one up for $125USD. Great condition, w/ box, manual, original packaging, original memory card, and power adapter. 3rd day, and so far I am loving it.

Just a curiosity, what kind of CD recorder are you using?
