Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

I just picked up a used MPC-500 and I'm really loving it. One thing I was trying to figure out was how I could name my samples to reference what artist/song I sampled from. Since the length of the sample name is limited, I came up this idea to name the samples a short name and to use the sequence/track names for the full names. I just create an empty sequence and call it "Info" and use each track name as lines of text. So no need to keep notes on paper. The information is always with the project. Here is an example and song I just made.

Sq: Info
Tr:A1: Al Green
Tr:A2: Love and
Tr:A3: Happiness

Edit: This might not be a good example since it's pretty easy to know the sample from the song. But that's the idea.

Interesting I usually like to name my tracks by instrument.

What I do is create a folder for each artist that I sample and name the samples or chops according to the song name and save it in that folder.

And I never use spaces since that is a waste of characters and you do only get 12 in the 500.

For "Love and Happiness" I would have likely named it "LuvAnHappyns" or "Luv&Happyns". You can skip a few letters here and there and still have an idea of what you sampled so long as know the artist.

And google will always help fill in the blanks if needed.

Yea, I still name my tracks by instrument for the normal sequences. But I use an extra sequence for the sample info. I haven't been saving my samples into separate folders. I just save the whole memory to a project folder. I tried the abbreviated naming, but you lose an extra two more letters when you start copying the sample. So I wanted a solution that I didn't have to guess with short names. Funny, I doubt I'd ever really get my beats out there and need samples cleared, but I guess you never know.

Purdy clever filing. I usually bundle everything to one track since program allows me to work samples like tracks but I can see this method for chops from certain records. Because I just make up a name and add a number and later forget what Banya4 was.

Wow, I just realized how out of tune my bass was in that track! It seemed fine listening on the mpc. I have to fix that.
