Recorded sample won't play when pad is assigned (Solved)

Hi, I just got an MPC500 last night and have been playing around with it today. I managed to record samples and assign them to pads and it worked fine but somewhere along the line I lost the ability to play back a sample after I had recorded it while assigning it to a pad. The sample I recorded will play when I hit the Play button but when I hit, say A1 to assign it it doesn't play. It also plys in Trim mode.

I know this is probably something really stupid but I'm more of an analog guy, digital hardware messes me up.

It turns out that I was just not hitting the pads hard enough. You really have to beat the hell out of these things, huh?

there is a special button that makes them play at 100% all the time.
