Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

Sorry to be such a pain in the ass guys but this is driving me insane. When I record a sample, on some of the pads there is a delay between when I hit the pad and when the sample is played. I can't figure out how this happened, I didn't change anything that I know of.

Thanks for putting up with my questions.

You are familiar with trim mode? Arent you? You are just listening to the silence you recorded at the beggining of the sample.

The manual is quite well written and it explains all these things.

Actually, there's no pause when I recorded the sample because it waits for the input signal before recording. That's also mentioned in the manual quite clearly, you should read it sometime.

All my samples are being recorded the same way, a guitar directly into the input jack but some of the pads don't play the sample assigned to it without this, it almost seems like a latency issue. I think it may have something to do with how much time there is between recording samples because if I give it a minute in between samples they're ok for the most part. This is a really annoying issue.

since you are reading the manual then i apologise for being snarky. sometimes the best advice for newcomers really is "read the f***ing manual"

auto trigger record is not 100% acurate, especialy with noisy signals like guitars.

if only some of the pads are doing this then i i'd check your samples in trim mode. it seems like the most logical explanation.

Sounds really weird. Even after sampling, the 500 adds 2200 samples at the start point so I doubt there would be pauses before the sound.

If this is a second hand MPC, then I would reinitialize the system. I think its holding down the ERASE button while powering up. Its in the manual :D

If that doesn't work, reboot the system. Your machine should be on OS 1.31. Even if its on 1.31, reboot it anyway to clean out any bugs and farts that the previous owner left. Download the OS to a CF card from http://www.akaipro.com/index.php/product/mpc500 follow the instructions and let us know how it goes.
