MPC 500 wont update to 1.31

So, my mpc 500 is currently running 1.11 and i wanted to update it to 1.31.
i have downloaded the bin file to my laptop then to my mpc via usb cable
but when i attempt to restart my mpc into the boot loader it wont work.
it just starts up normally. i am holding shift while i power on like the manual says
but that doesnt work. does anyone know whats the matter or have a solution?

you did unzip the file before copying it to the cf card? the filename should end with .bin NOT .zip

also remember that it must be in the ROOT of the cf card (not inside any folder)

or maybe try a different cf card. make sure to use a card which definitely works with the mpc500

Thanks but i've made sure of all of that. I can't try using another cf card because I don't own one. Although i'm sure it works because it's the one i currently use to load samples. I planned to get another cf card anyway so I will try again when i do.
