I thought it said you have to get 256mb? Something about the mpc only reads one side? Idk maybe not.
Thats also a pc133u stamped on the chip and its listed as pc133s which might make a difference. I think its supposed to be pc133.

I bought this one on Amazon
"256MB SDRAM PC133 Laptop Memory Module (144-pin SODIMM, 133MHz) Genuine A-Tech Brand"

I can let you know next week when it shows up if it works lol

Is it because I have 256mb ram and should be getting 128mb ram for the 500?

You need the 256mb ram card, even though the 500 only sees 128mb.

Use rubbing alcohol to clean the board and connectors. Make sure you are seating it properly. It is possible that you're not getting a good connection.

According to that thread, you've got the right specs.

As long as it really is PC133 with a CAS Latency of 3 you should be good.

On the other hand... whatever you got might have that on it as a sticker, but it might not be legit.

*shrug* Hard to know... but that eBay listing at least has the right information on it.

Cheers mate,

Also just realised, can you boot up the mpc without the ram?. From this listing here the seller has removed the memory and he's managed to load it?

From MPC Tutor's "Beat making on the MPC500"...
"Standard RAM – this type of memory makes up the bulk of memory in your MPC and
by default, there is actually 11.4MB of RAM available for sampling usage – this can
be upgraded to 128MB using additional memory chips... This type
of RAM is the same kind of RAM found in laptops and computers."
