Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

Hi - I'm new, just got an MPC 500. I did a search and most of my questions were answered with regards to USB. Essentially, I learned that the USB is only used for exchanging files between the PC and the CF card while it's plugged into the unit. No USB audio, no USB MIDI.

My last question is: If I have a CF card adapter for my PC, do I have to go through my the MPC 500 to load files onto the card? Can I just load them to the card directly from my PC? The PC seems to read the card ok, but I don't want to assume there isn't any proprietary reading/writing going on by the MPC that the PC can't do and might mess up the formatting of the card.

Thanks for your help!

I'm just reviving this old thread to follow up on this question please. Learning the MPC now for the first time myself. And I'm wondering if you can load samples and programs directly from computer onto an SD card, and then insert that into the MPC with a CF adapter to load. Or, does the MPC only allow loading from computer via USB, and your work is then saved on the inserted card?

Thank you!

You can copy files to the Compact Flash card on the computer and then insert the Compact Flash into the MPC. The main issue being that if you bend a pin on the CF reader, it's then not going to work.

Thank you! Actually my issue is that an SD card in a CF adapter that has been formatted on the MPC 500 is not being read by my Macbook. I have found it by running Disk Utility and repairing the device, it can then be read by my Macbook. But then the repaired drive freezes my MPC when I insert it. At a bit of a loss.
