We need some sort of Chopping here!!1

Right now I'm sitting around chopping up samples for a later use with the 500. I'm thinking that there definitely needs to be a chop function added to the 500 in a future OS update. I know you guys agree. It probably won't happen any time soon, although it wouldn't hurt to let akai know that this is a wanted addition. Duh, akai get with the program!!1

Well I think it would be pretty easy. It probably wouldn't work as well with an auto chop feature but manual chops would be a piece of cake. Then again it should work for both............anyway

First it would prompt you asking how many equal slices to chop(up to 64).
Once you chose the amount here it just divides the sample by that number.

Real simple.

If your original sample has a length of 900000 and you chop it into 16 pieces, each chop would have a length of 56250.


This can be done now but it takes a long time. Because you have to first divide the sample. Then set the start and end points for each chop and then extract it.......doing that 16 times can kill about 30 min. Thats to much time to chop up something.

But you did buy the MPC 500 already knowing what it was capable of, right? If so, then you shouldn't complain. Though it is nice to have updates with every new OS, you shouldn't expect anything more than what the 500 already has if they didn't add any new features.

seriously just dump chops from your laptop - trying to chop on that 1981 calculator screen will wig you out two times

Believe me I am very happy with the 500 I would just like to see a chopping feature added that's all. If they don't add a thing to the 500 I will still be satisfied.

...the 500 is the 1K all over again. akai didn't implement things that should've been there from the start. bugging akai would probably work again(it seemed to work for 1K a last OS 2.1). I agree with ya upright and understand what you're saying.

They release these things before there 100% ready, because they rake in more green when its released earlier...

hey meanwhile, there's a pretty quick workaround.

copy the sample however many times you need it chopped, then just edit the start and end points of each "slice." discard extra info and you're good to go.

sorry if i'm being a slowpoke here, but does the 500 have any sort of waveform going on or is it all numeric? this technique works either way, but might be more handy w/ the former.

it's all numeric, i believe. in fact, i saw the size of the screen (in person at my local GC), and i can't even imagine how they could put a waveform editor on that thing.

There is no waveform shown. The above suggestion you gave is pretty good. The method I am using is to just extract each chopped section from the original sample and just repeat this as many times as necessary. I guess whatever you prefer.
