MPC 500 Pads.

Has anyone already tried to open up his/her mpc-500 to have a look at the pads? If so what technology is used? Is it the same as in the mpc-1000 or is it one controller board like in the 2k(xl)? Pictures would be nice. I don't want to start a discussion about which pads are nicest or whatever, that's personal taste. Heck I even like the pads on my sp-404 . It's jsut that I have seen so many threads back in the days about the mpc-1000 pads breaking down so I was wondering what the story is with the mpc-500 pads.

I must admit that i'm getting a little confused.

When I was on the 500 in GC....the pads seemed a bit smaller than the 1000....maybe it was just me....or maybe the 12 pads threw me off.

i haven't opened up either machine, but they're exactly the same length/width. if that post on the linked thread is right, i'm sure akai switched to the single sheet layout design as a way to solve the 1k's carbon pad issues. feelwise, they're exactly the same to me. know this from experience cause my friend's got a 1k.

hopefully this design will work....if the layout has indeed been changed. Wow , i'm kinda curious. I just can't bring myself to open my 500. I'm sure we'll get to the bottom of this sooner or later.

They are the same size...but I have heard that the 500 is a sheet of twelve pads vs the 1000's single pads.

when i checked out the 500 at guitar center, i could tell from the feel of the pads that they were on one sheet. i know that don't sound all too convincing, but i've played around with every mpc model that's been out and these pads feel similar in that fashion. unfortunately, gc didnt have it connected to any power source, so i couldnt judge how the response was to trigger the samples (as it's been mentioned that they need more of a push than the other models). but nick at vst had also confirmed with me over the phone that the 500's pads are all on one sheet. i've also read the same thing as yoshimi, but i cant recall exactly where i read it. however, it's safe to say that this is true, from all i've gathered.

we need to know this for sure, as we're working on trying to big boy akai into producing a pad replacement set that comes in one board like the 500 for the 1k. if they did this, nobody would be able to gripe about the 1000 as it would be the perfect machine.

just get a 2500 ...with jj's os its shaping up to be the perfect machien!!!!!!

I could be wrong ,but I think simult is kind like layering your pads with more than one sound.I believe there is more controll as far as each sound, when you compare simult with the mpc 2500's pad layering feature. Simult is and old feature that is found on the 2000XL. Not really sure how it works though.

I thought simult was just allowing you to play any three pads while only really tapping one pad? I'm not being a jerk, because I really don't know...but how is this better than being able to layer 4 samples on top of each other?

still not worth it, even if akai never offers a 500 esq pad solution...i'll order some graphite and get creative.
