problem with "program assign"

hi,

my english is verry simple but i will try it. this is my first post and i‘m wondering about my username ? it should be "love in a plain brown envelope" ... i think it is to long for this forum ...

ok, my problem is another one. for a few days i buy a mpc500 (my first mpc). now i will record a miditrack with external piano. the manual says i have to go on the track-params-side to the "program assign" (this is no problem). now i have to select the option "off" for this track with the jogwheel... than the mpc will not trigger the intern samples and only play the miditrack. but there is no option for "off" .... i only can change between 4 programs.

if you can help me - please whrite in verry simple english. and when here is anyone who can change my username in "love in a plain brown envelope" i will be verry happy about this.

it seems to be a bug in the os. to get around this, somebody mentioned this in another post. create a new program and dont assign any samples to it, and then just set the midi channel

I just tried it now and what you said is exactly what should work:
Press Track > Params > (scroll to) Program assign
Change the track # to the one you have your MIDI performance on (let's say you have your MIDI piano performance on Track 3, or A3) by putting the cursor on the track # after the "Tr:" and scrolling to "A3". Move the cursor once more to the right where your program name is and scroll the data wheel counter-clockwise until you find "OFF"

It works for me. Are you using the latest OS v1.11?

I am using a setup much like you are with the MPC500 as my main sequencer.
Post back when you get a chance.

this may sound ignant,
but i didnt kno things like this could be done on mpcs
i always been biased towards software but then this spark of gettin another mpc just bit me, oh well there goes history.

this is what i do but there is no "off". i have the os 1.11 ... later i will check to create a new program whithout samples. now i have to go to work

Wow. That is really crazy. Call Akai.

i‘ve just checked to create a new program without samples. but in this program is no "off" too. i don‘t know what i can do now ? i send an email to the german suport of akai (yesterday). but they will don‘t answere me.

today i called the german akai suport and tell him this problem. he checked his own mpc500 and send me an email with the message: "this is a system-bug and we will send this information to the programer of a new update."

i hope they do it verry quickly. in the meantime i must use an empty program for all miditracks.

by miditraks do u mean traks solely triggering modules/keyboards via midi?
or actual samples in the machine triggered by the innards of the machine?

Thanks for posting back. It seems strange that that bug would show up in the same version of the OS for some and not others. Are you using the German-language version of the MPC500 OS? It would be very interesting if different localizations had bugs.

i checked the os v.1.11 from the german akai site and from the usa akai site. both os are in english, there is no german version.

Works fine for me, gives the OFF option, whether samples/programs are loaded or not.

I'm on version 1.11.

Maybe try reloading the OS from the US site?

It is in the Track-Params section of the menu, not in the Mode-Program section of the menu.

Are you sure that you are trying to set it in the Track-Params section?

It is a setting for each track, not the program.
