Have you just tried it?
What you described is the basics of how midi works: hooking a MIDI controller output (like a keyboard) to a sound module MIDI input (like the MPC or a synth module etc). I personally have my keyboard and mpc acting both as controllers and sound modules. If you are creating melodic sample programs on your MPC (vs. percussion or drum programs) make sure the program note layout is chromatic.
I have the MIDI output of the MPC going into my Virus Indigo (synth) and the MIDI output of my Virus into the MPC. This way, i can create a drum beat sequence on the MPC with a drum kit program, then record a sequence of notes on the MPC using my synth, then the MPC plays that sequence of notes back to the Virus. It is a very basic setup but lets me do a lot.
Eventually i will take the MIDI-through of the keyboard and send that to one of my guitar pedals so it will receive the BPM.
