Can you plug in microphones/guitars and be able to record?

Im new to the MPC world and was wondering if you could actually plug in microphones/contact mic's guitars or any type of external instruments into the MPC's and be able to record them using the sequencer?

Sure why wouldn't you be able to??

Im really curious about this because my main focus will be noise music and being able to record using contact mics and heavy feedback using guitars and bass, and producing it using the mpc. will I need anyhting else other than just pluging a microphone into the mpc to record???

Well if the mic requires phantom power to work , then obviously you won't be able to connect right up without running the mic into a mixer or device with phantom power.

I just did a little test for you concerning guitar inputs which should work with a mic with a standard 1/4'' connection (I'm guessing). I plugged my guitar into the 500 and to my surprise it sounds really good. There is a mic/input button on the back of mpc that toogles from mic mode to input mode. The only difference I noticed between to two modes is that the mic mode boosts the signal slightly, but I can hear my guitar in both mic mode and input mode. I hope this helps you bro!!1

It depends on the ouput level of the devices that you plug into the MPC500.

If they have enough output level to give a decent recording level in the MPC500, then you should be fine. If they do not give enough level, then you might want something inbetween, like a mixer, to provide a stronger signal level into the MPC500.
