Samples keep disspearing

I just got a 500, and I think it may be defective. Every time I load my chops and assign them to pads....and after playing them for a while, they dissappear...and what's worse I can't reload them unless I restart the unit.

The unit's MODE button appears to be screwed, sometimes I'll click it and either it will display the TIMING CORRECT menu or the PROGRAM mode features....same goes for my SEQUENCE button, it just toggles back and forth between the TRACK & SEQUENCE, and sometimes it doesn't respnd at all

what gives? Could I have accidentally activated something to make the unit behave this way?

No, I don't think it's anything you've done. I would take it back to the retailer and try for an exchange.

I called Akai and explained my problem, and the unit is definitely defective. Got a repair order to get it fixed.

Has anyone ever bought a third party "EXM128 memory card" for the 500 or 1000 off eBay... their like 40 bucks...but i want to know if their legit.

Yeah, I bought my ram on Ebay from a seller named"Fourniersean". The transaction went really well plus he gave me a ton of free samples when I purchased the ram. The disk of he gave me had over 15,000 samples on it!!1 At the time he was only charging $30.00 for the ram, so it was a great bargin. I recommend buying from him, you won't be disappointed.

I think I got mine on ebay, I have had no issues.

The 500's Preset Sound Memory is set to 5MB. Is there any way to change that since it has alteast 16MB's factory installed, or do I have to wait till I upgrade to the 128 Expansion?

Correct me if I am wrong, but preset sound memory controls how many programs you can load into memory before the dreaded " Insufficient Memory" prompt idsplays on the screen.

Hmmm, I'm not to sure about the specifics when it comes to the internal memory, I do know that the manual gives a run down on that info though. I'm pritty sure you can't change it.

Are you sure that is the original EMX-128 unit? I bought memory for my MPC from "Sampler Source" on Ebay, but it turned out to be a regular laptop SODIMM. It works, but of course you shouldn't advertize selling the original when you don't.

No, I never said it was the EMX-128. It's Kingston ram and like you said it works fine.
