Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500
By Skribe1 Fri Apr 06, 2007 7:53 am
I just bought my first mpc,(the 500).I have been using reason and ableton live 6 to make beats up till now.I did everything it said in the manual but am still having a problem. When i go to usb mode and put a few .wav's in the mpc, when I try to load the samples to the pads i get an unknown file message on the lcd.If any one is out there w/ a 500 could you please contact me and give a little help.I really dont want to take it back because i know once i get a grip on this thing it will be an extremely valuable tool.[/b]

files might be corrupteD?

format the CF card first?

try sampling brand new samples, or sample the old ones from your PC via the headphones out on your PC, just use a headphone to 1/4' splitter

also, try new or different wav files

16Bits samples not 24

Make sure the .wav files are 44.1kHz/16-bit. Anything else, like 24-bit, gets rejected.

[edit] gbeat2 beat me to it.

first of all thank you to everyone who responded and tried to help me out.But i have another question.I am new to the mpc world but no at all new to music production(mainly DAW'S)I have never had to chage a sample's bit before and am wondering if that is the key to my "unknown file format" predicament.I am using a Mac Powerbook. Is there anyone out there that can tell me how to do this?
