Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

Just bought my 500 last week and installed a cf reder in my 2000xl to make them compatible. SO far the pgm. and seq. files from the 500 cannot be read by the 2000xl. I have no problem loading sounds (wav) fro the 500.

When i try to load the program I made in the 500 I get an error saying "wrong file format".

When I try to load the seq, I get some crazy shit with a bunch of numbers and the words akai2k on the screen and the mpc freezes.

Any ideas of whats going on here?

The mpc2000xl is older than the mpc500 so its not 100% compatible with the XL. One way of handling the problem would be to load the sounds from PGM to the XL individually. Also if u have the sequences make sure they are all individual sequences and then try to load them in the XL. Now what u could do is get the MPC Editor program and make your PGM as XL files which will open in the 500 and will also open back up in the XL. Does that make sense to you?

Thanks, makes sense, and I have mpc editor. But I was really expecting the workflow to be little more seamless. I din't want to have to bring my computer to work with me to start abeat/make a program, kind of defeats the purpose.

The sequence was just one, the first beat I made. Now that I have the cf reader in the xl, should I format future cards in the xl?

Any tips or workarounds anyone has would be greatly appreciated.

To clarify, I want to make beats programs and sequences on the 500 and bring them to my studio for tweaking and recording into pro tools using the 8 outs? Akai told me this would be possible but I haven'eenle to do it yet.
