Other than MID files and WAV's, which are universal formats regardless of hardware, you can't transfer ANY pgm info from an MPC 500 to a 2000xl.
The 500 manual and AKAI website says there is compatibilty between the two, but some PGM parameters may be lost, there is only backward compatibilty (2000xl to 500) at best.
I don't see how someone can create on the 500 and make a professional mix if they have a 2000xl.
And the people at AKAI, after assuiming I made a mistake, arrived at the point where they were basically saying "Gee, you're right, that sucks."
Would have been a lot better for them to have found this out before I spent $700.00 on a MPC500 and $130.00 for a CF for my 200xl. And yes, I called them before I bought this and they told me they would be compatible, backward and forward, but that some PGM parameters might be lost.
But today I get condescending treatment and an admission that the compatibility list should be "clarified."
I was very excited to start using these two together and did my homework, and am now very disappointed. Do not buy the 500 if you think you're going to create pgm's and seq's from scratch and bring them to your 2000xl for tweaking and mixdown.
The treatment I got today was utter bullshit. I've given thousands to this company over the years. They don't seem to give much thought regarding compatibilty of their devices. Mistakes may happen, but you should take care of your customers when they do.
I am posting this only to make sure someone doesn't get screwed like I just did. If anyone has ANY ideas of how to work around these bugs, external software, etc. I'd love to hear them.
