(BUG)O.S. 1.12 should allow 128 programs but it doesn't???

Hi,

I updated my MPC to O.S. version 1.12, the release notes state that 1.12 adds support for 128 programs.

My MPC says version 1.12 but I can't create or load more then 24 programs!

Do you have the same problem, or is it my MPC?

Hi,

I get the following message:

1st line -> "Prog. directory"
2nd line -> "full (24 MAX)"

It flashes a couple of times on the screen.

I Emailed Akai with my problem, I'll keep you posted about their reply.

Could you try creating or loading 24+ programs, maybe it's my MPC?

I created a zip file with 24 empty programs, try loading the folder and then go to Program mode and try to create a 25th program!

I switched to Akai recently after using Yamaha samplers for years (A5000, RM1x and RS7000), but they stopped producing and supporting all the products I own

I sure hope Akai supports their products properly and releases a new O.S. version soon.

I can also confirm this happens on mine too. I mailed Akai, hopefully they'll listen, but I'm not holding my breath.

Interesting. Seems they released a new feature without even testing it once...

have exceeded your internal memory by loading up many samples, then you would not be able to load up more programs.

I tried it by creating 24 new (empty) programs too, so it doesn't seem to
be a sample memory issue. Further more I have 128MB of (official Akai) RAM
installed in my MPC500.

Also I checked with other MPC500 users on the internet, they have the same
problem with O.S. 1.12.

Akai replied again:

I checked this over here and experienced the same results of a limit of up
to 24 programs. We are not sure what is exactly causing this. We are looking
into this and will issue a fix as soon as this is tracked down.

Great news guys, they'll have it fixed in the next couple of months!

Sad thing is Akai won't even reply to my mails, great customer support!

I called them this morning and they said they know about it and there should be a new OS in a day or two.

If they do indeed fix this problem fast, let's do this everytime we find something wrong with their products. Mail the sh!t out of them!

They also replied my mail some 2 hours saying they'll fix it asap.

I agree, hardware samplers/sequencer are becomming more of a niche market every day... If I was Akai I would listen to my customers and support my products as best as I possibly can!

Thing is, Akai will get scant praise for a speedy fix. People just pick up on the negative sh1t

This quick fix points to good comms between users and dev's via clear and polite communication. More of the same please

Well, I have said quite a bit negative stuff. I'm not really unhappy with my 500, I kind of like it, it's just that, when something is sold as a professional piece of kit, I expect basic stuff to work well, and also good support and fixes for stuff that doesn't work. For instance, the fact that bugs reported to akai and confirmed by akai months ago still isn't fixed is just plain bad.

That said, this last fix was quick and to the point. If it continues like that, akai is well worthy of praise.
