System Error!

Hi,

I was just working on some 3 track test sequence, I had only 1 sequence and with 3 tracks and 6 samples in memory. All of a sudden the sequence sounded like there was a flanger effect on the master.

Since there is nog flanger master effect, I figured it must be duplicate notes (which can sound like flanging). So I entered step mode.

In step mode I found some duplicate notes, but not so many it would explain the whole sequence would sound like it was processed trough a flanger.

While I was deleting the duplicate notes, the MPC500 screen flashed "System Error" and "Insufficient Memory".

So I pressed the status button and the screen read: Sav: 99% Sq: Syst

Then the MPC500 froze comletely!!!

Does anyone have similar experiences, maybe we can find out the cause and team up to email Akai support.

PS: I have 128MB and my memory was no where near full!

I had an almost identical thing happen. I would be Step Edit mode and when I tried to move an event the mpc would say SYSTEM ERROR! and my sequences would be lost. The sequences would show as "unused".
At first I thought it was caused by the non-Akai RAM that I'd bought so I took that out, re-loaded the OS from the Akai website, formatted the CF card and tried again but exactly the same thing happened again when in moving events in Step Edit mode.
Today I took the mpc back to the shop where I bought it and I have a new unit which I'm gonna test out.

I have the official Akai memory, so that shouldn't be the problem.

I can move events in step mode without crashing the MPC.

I haven't been able to reproduce the crash yet, but I'm working on it (So Akai can fix it)

has this happened only once on your mpc? It happened a lot on mine so I got it swapped. Is is a common error?
