I'm an idiot!!

Hey everyone, I'm very new to this forum as I just picked up my first MPC (500).

-I bought a Japenese MPC and got my self a plug adaptor...What I forgot from basic science in school is that i ACTUALLY need a transformer to change the voltage.

-When I realized this it was too late...being so excited to use my new toy I plugged it in and ***BANG*** smoke started pooring out and I cried...Sad site...

-ANYWAYS...I NEEEEED someone in London who can fix it somehow...I think the mains supply is ruined, but it works off batteries

It would just be the mains power supply, as the thing is only 12v. I'm yet to get a proper power suplly for mine. I'm just using this electronics testing power supply with a loose cable hooked up to it.

Lucky your MPC still works dude, thank AKAI for putting in a decent protection circuit.

It might only be a few capacitor wrecked but if you can get AKAI in the UK to fix it I am sure you might be able to sweet talk them into doing it on the cheap or free.

PSU circuits are mostly basic your only concern should be if they use micro circuits then it will be harder to replace components. I am sure its not but I am not opening my MPC to find out

if i have a 500 purchased in USA, then use a UK power supply, is anything going to fry? if so, what?

As long as you're using the proper Akai UK power supply, you have nothing to worry about since the power supply itself steps down the voltage to 12v DC 600mA negative polarity.
