does the mpc 500 really have all i need to make really goooooooood beats?if so why do people buy mpc2000 3000 or 4000??? n will i eventually need to buy a better mpc??
If you are the worlds most talented producer you could make great beats with a 2-deck tape recorder.
To answer your question, the MPC500 can do everything you want to make great beats. It's a great little machine. I doubt you will find anyone who can tell the difference between a beat made on an MPC500 and a 4000. Maybe the better sampling rate, but thats about it.
If you are good and can learn your tool you can use all kinds of stuff... some of my favorite beats I made on an old Roland mc303.
It depends how you like to make beats. Your not gonna make a beat that sounds like Just Blaze with only a 500, but you wouldn't make a beat like Just Blaze if you made it in his studio. If you got deep enuf in to the 500 you could make a very good sounding beat, it would take longer than if you had more kit but you could do it.
And you can work faster...
I mean... you have more outputs.. to record directly or mix your beats outboards.... you have the chop shop feature on your mpc...
Just remember what a lot of people here forget:
You can make burner beats.. but if the mix sounds like shit.. it won't be a hit!
The mix is real important don't get me wrong. I record track by track from the mpc500 down to Qbass or move the parts to my MPC2000 that has the 8 outs, then mix on a Yamaha 01v96. But you could use the 500's EQ on one sound ie kick drum then resample inside the 500 and do this over and over on every sound to fatten or clean them all up (different EQ settings each time) I think, would this work I've never tried it, but thats how I understand it could work ?
