Broke my RAM clip inside my 500

I just got this exact piece.. Installed it into my 500 and in doing so broke both sides of the clip that holds it in place..




It happened real easy.. I didn't use much pressure at all..

Akai tells me this isn't covered in the year waranty I have.. Anyone else run into this problem and have to get it fixed ? I was wondering what the pocket damage may be...


In other words: Be careful if you're installing one of these.. that plastic is very brittle..

yeah man, that almost happened to me. wen i installed it one of them broke a bit but not completely off. its tricky to put in, so little space. but if it can stay in place without the sidepieces then ur still good to go.

fit it in and use nonrigid glue to stick it in there. since when you put it in, you're never gonna take it out. silicone glue or something that will take the portablity issues.

well, it will still read the ram when its at that angle before you push it down..I think the best way is to put a lil foam pad and glue it onto the battery flap thing so when u put the cover on it will hold it down in place

I thought about the foam pad..

Does the chip get hot in use ? I didn't want to have to figure out what type of foam to use etc.. end up melting someshit in there..

I think I'm just going to bite the bullet and get it fixed.. Got it boxed up and ready to ship out Tuesday. Good ideas though.. Thanks for the feedback...

same thing happened to me!

I was being really careful and BOTH of them broke

I used a pencil eraser to hold the ram chip down, is working good so far.

I was at guitar center today, and my research came up positive.

There are 2 different clip types on the mpc 500.
Some got the cheap brittle clips like yours (totaly different design)
I will post some pictures later.
Others have the MPC 1000 style clips

Akai knows about the cheap clips, Trust me !

These others may as well have been made with egg shell.

Is there any way to get our cheap ones replaced?

I sent mine to a place called TSI Still waiting on them to fix it and let me know the pocket damage.. I called today and they said mine would be on the "bench" tomorrow.. I feel like a family member is having surgery over here...

The MPCs been gone a week.. I get a call they need me to ship my memory card now. To test the unit.

WTF ? I've spent over 30 bucks sending the unit. Now I have to send them a memory card.. They work on MPCs shouldn't they have some memory cards on hand ??

lol and smh, I would tell you what you should of done, but it might be against the rules. It sucks that you have to go thru this fam!

This really doesn't seem like I should be paying for an MPC I bought from an authorised dealer only a few months ago.

Crash- Hang in there man. What a ridiculous situation. Akai really should fix this problem for us, and that repair place sounds like a joke. I can't believe you had to send in your card!! And then they had one there all along to test with. It just keeps getting weirder and weirder.

I hope they install a sturdier one for you so it doesn't break again. Thanks for your posts.

makes you wonder, does anybody designing and developing mpc's both hardware and softare, give a toss about us, i dont think they even use them haha, prob leave bugs n laugh, like nerdy pranks haha. anyway yea, akai needs to pull its skirt up and stop fobbing off loyal, paying customers. whats a warrenty ay?
