I was planning on buying an MPC specifically from a trip I'm planing and I was between the 100 and 500 but I keep hearing bad comments regarding the 500. What's so bad about it besides the repeated "crashing" comments I've heard.

mine never crashes, i have the original os, never updated, its the shit!
go get one. just no waveform editing and a smaller screen, if your down with that its perfect.
