Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

What's up, guys.

I'm interested in maybe selling my 2000XL and buying a 500 just because it's so much more convenient. I'm just wondering, is there a filter in the MPC500? Similar to that in the 2000XL?

Peace yo

Yes get one..cleaner but you can make dirty too...from buy, to opening box, to naging beats...maybe one hr and you'll have sequences built with tracks effects, ready to record to a daw

great lil machine...dont listen to the rag posts its a great machine

Okay, thanks, man:)

What's the filter like? Any opinions on that? Do you use it anything?

The filter is to remove the highs and mids only (low pass), I like it, but when using it for like the low-end theory, you might be stuck with too low of a sound because you cant use a high pass to take out the extreme lows. One solution I found with that, and a way to make a high pass is setting up effects like EQs on those samples (the 500 has built in individual effects) and resampling those sounds. Hope that helps.

I actually just recently sold my 500 to buy a 2000xl (without the effects board) and then sold that after a few days to get another 500 because you can do more onboard with the 500 (at least I can).

Ah, I see. Hmm...

The filter on the 500 is not a resonant filter, right? Also, does it offer a wah-wah effect like the effect card for the 2000XL does for instance? Haha, I may have some far-fetched question but I need to know:)

The thing is that I dig all those Pete Rock-y, later ATCQ ("The Love Movement" for instance) type of sounds and want to spice up my samples with that warm, funky vibe so...

On the filter screen there are two options/things to tweak - F and R. F is Filter, or more specifically, Low Pass Filter. R is Resonance, I don't really know what it does exactly, aside from that it adds Resonance. Both can be combined. There is no wah wah option, but in the effects screen there are things like autopan, tremolo, and more things that can give a similar sound or other effects.

Mm, ok. That sounds quite good...

Hey, another thing. Does the 500 come with a battery charger? Or maybe you charge the battery by just having the power cable connected?

No battery charging. You could buy two sets of rechargables and always swap them out. I get about 7 hours (a complete guess) out of regular AAs, and have a car lighter adapter to save batteries while in there.
