sampling two samples to different pads...can it be done?

Im wondering if i can sample the same sample (off of a memory card) to different pads and trim one of them while the other would stay the same..i tried to do it and it didnt seem to work..can it be done?

Extract it (make a copy) in trim mode, assign these two samples to different pads. Trim one of them and the other (since it's a different sample now) will stay the same.
