i've been readin a lot of threads here as well as threads on other music sites and i want to get into producing more. i am a DJ and i own a korg microkorg synth. i want to add a sampler/sequencer to my set up so i can start making songs.

i had originally planned on getting an sp-303 or 404 because my budget is kind of tight but i might be able to stretch it to get a mpc 500. the 1000 version is out of the question for me unfortunately.

i've heard some complaints about the 500 like its buggy and hard to use and it doesn't have an ability to chop samples.

can any of these things be cleared up??

i would be using the machine to make electronic music mostly mixed with a bit of classic hip-hop.

thanks. :D

I've had 2. The first was buggy, but it could be worked around; this one works fine. The MPC 500 can chop samples, just not with the visual guide - you have to trim by ear/numbers - I like it better this way. I sold my 500 and bought a 2000xl, and after playing with it for a week, decided I like the 500 more and got another. Sometimes I wish I could do some of the things that the other models offer, but for the price (got mine for $380) it's a great machine, it's still an MPC.

so you have the MPC 500 now as your only MPC model?

just a weird question but is it "hard" to get the memory cards into the slot because i heard somewhere that the MPC had a dodgy slot for inserting the memory card.

Nah ...the slot works cool, it's design is a little different than the other mpc CF card ports but it works fine.

Yeah the 500 is my only MPC right now, and it's all I need as far as a sampler/sequencer goes. And it's sometimes a little hard to get the CF in there, but I can't ever not get it in.

I have a 2gig card in there and to be honest, after really struggling to get it in there in the past I am not keen to ever take it out again!

It was really easy. Only thing I noticed with a new card was that i had to push it in a lil harder then then the memory card that came with the unit.
