Just got my 500!!!

A few days now - been too busy beatmaking to post.

This machine is amazing! Some perspective:

I started off on the original Linndrum, then Linn 9000, then Emu Drumulator, then the MPC 60 and all variations since. Early adopter of computer sequencing: seen Pro 16 to Cubase, Creator 1.1 to Logic 8, Sound Tools to ProTools, PPG Realizer to ReBirth to Reason - been there, beta-tested that AND got the T-shirt.

Been starting at a computer screen for too many years - felt it was time to get back to basics. Man, the 1st beat I programmed on the 500 just felt RIGHT! Yeah, the OS could do with some tidying up, yeah the pads feel a little stiff. but it was like:

Welcome home....

Cool man,.....sounds like you know your stuff! Have fun......keep us posted and share some music when the time is right.

I've spent SOOO MUCH time on rebirth it's ridiculous, I used to LOVE that program, still got it somewhere.....

Still lovin' it, but a couple of issues:

1. Pads & velocitry curves are kinda strange - esp if you're used to the 60 or 3000

2. Definite MIDI sync issues (at least on my setup). Feel is very different (esp noticeable and measurable on swing) when MPC is in external sync. Never had this issue with any MPC before. However, can't say if the issue is with the MPC or my current setup (iBook OS X 10.4.5/Edirol PCR USB). I've had numerous issues with MIDI via USB since the earlies. Problem is the same in either ProTools or Logic.

So far the only workaround is to record the MPC "free" and then shift the audio to start on the beat. Will investigate further when I get the time...

I have to do the same thing when I record to my DAW. My MTC sync settings just don't quite get the audio locked to the grid, It's not off by much but I just move the audio to line up perfectly afterwards. I hope you get everything worked out.

I don't expect the MPC to lock exactly to the grid - it's not sample-accurate. But the fact that the actual feel changes when in slave mode is a cause for concern. Haven't been able to test it with the MPC as master as yet.
