Yo peeps, got this baby yesterdee...

Just wanna mute one sound on a pad instead of the entire track.

Anyone know how?

Can't find an answer in the manual or the web, so would be supa-grateful if anyone can help.

Thanks,

Tex

You would have to just have that sound you want muted on it's own track I think. Mute mode doesn't stop sounds, it just prevents them from playing. If a sample is like 3 seconds long and you mute the track that it's on while it's playing, it's going to finish playing, then "mute" it. You could mess with the "mute group" (it's in program) - every thing in the group affects each other, when one sound in the group plays, the other sound in the group that is playing has to stop.

Maybe you could extract the sound you want muted, put it on a different pad with a different trim end time - reprogram the track to use the two different samples that have different end points?

Thanks a lot dude, always comin wi' the answers!!! I just thought there must be a simple way to cut the kick or snare out of, say, a performance recorderd on track 1...but the track mute's no good for this cuz, as you say - all sounds are on that track and so all of them will be muted.

I just wanna cut a few drums out while someone's spitting a verse - to create 'live drops' in the beat, if you like. Seems mad clumsy to have to copy it to another track and erase the kick, and then do again without the snare and then have to switch between tracks. Muting individual sounds on a single track must be possible, SURELY!!!

I could do that on my Dr. Groove 202!!!LOL

No problem man.

Well, It doesn't work if you're chopping a break, but if you're using drum hits, you can assign your snare to one track, hats to another, kick to another, etc... and just mute certain tracks for that effect.
Yeah, that's one thing I hate about the 500, there's a lot of basic things missing. I know when I use my roommate's 1000 with jj, that's one of the cool things- tracks can mute mid sample.

Traditionally, 1 instrument / 1 track.

I'm guessing the mute is for a track.

Does it have a mute group sort of function?

I don't have a 500.

The 500 only has one mute group, but still no way of muting things mid sample.

That sounds like every other mpc I messed with.

I was playing with my roommate's 1000 today, and it's different in that part. I could mute a track that had a 4 bar sample on it so that it would only play for 2 bars, or just a quick stab of it, etc... The 500 would let the whole sample play out if I mute after it's triggered.

Hi there. In os update 1.3 they fixed the mute group problem, so now yo have 99 (i think) muting groups.

Good looking out. I might get that update for that alone. I'm just lazy when it comes to shit like that.
