Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500
By jesherlock77 Sun Mar 02, 2008 8:24 pm
Ho, I am having trouble loading samples on my MPC500.

I have it hooked up to PC via USB. I am chopping some samples in Recycle, loading them into the MPC drive, ejecting drive, disconnecting USB cable and then trying to load the samples. What seems to be happening is that the MPC is only recognizing 1 or 2 of the samples in the folder.

I have no other samples installed on the mpc, nothing in the internal memory ( i think, how do i check this?). I have no factory settings etc.

It was working fine a few days ago but now its not.

The sample is a 12 bar loop that is 5mb, chopped into 12 stabs. I have also tried using an external USB card and card reader and it still does the same thing. I have formatted the card in the MPC (although when I tried to do this in the pc it sais @Error unable to formatt - probably not related right?)

Help this is driving me mad.

Cheers

John

It sounds weird. Make shure that you export your samples in 44 KHz 16 Bit! I have no problems with recycled samples.

try using a different program, (i.e. Audacity, Cool Pro Edit) if you formatted your card, you should definetly have space to load the samples. 5Mb's isnt that much. idk, did you send all the chopped samples into the same exact folder?

on checking your INTERNAL info, when your 500 shows up on your computer, go to the drive where it's located, and there should be different folders containing the factory samples, dbl click the "INTERNAL" folder. BUT, since you formatted ur cf card, idk if that folder would still be there or not...

Cheers for the reply,

I have formatted the card and there is no internal stuff saved. No factory settings etc. When I click on status, I have 100% WAV and 100% Seq.

I am putting the recyle samples (44.1 16bit) in a folder but only two show up on the MPC. i.e I can only scroll through 2. Does the name of the sample / file make need to be the same?

I dont know why it is!!!

BTW, has anyone had any issues regarding the metronome on the 500? When i play the pads, it drifts significantly. I dont know whu this is. Its driving me mad. Its intermittent though.

Any suggestions?

It sounds like your machine is corrupt. You need to contact Akai.

Hello,

It might be stupid... But did you make sure that your samples do not have too long names. It seems to me that the MPC 500 cannot make the difference between 2 samples if the first 13 letters of their file names is identical. And in this case, it shows only one of the samples.
Renaming your files with short names ould be the solution.

hi, yeah i dont think the machine is corrupt. and i too have noticed that long file names have that effect.

Yeah sounds like you got yourself a **** MPC. The metronome should certainly not be doing that.

And there is a 13 character limit when naming samples on the 500.
