Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

Ya'll wanna make a beattape?
I think if we made a solid effort and a good beattape we might be able to earn the 500 a little more respect. Obviously beats made only on the 500, we should allow other equipment, just no other samplers or sequencers aside from the 500. If someone could do some transitions or something using software, to make it one long flowing track, or if any djs want to do something along those lines or interludes and scratching, that would be great.

Personally I'm not going to add any of my best beats to this mix, just quick ones that would be alright to rap to. I think if I were to set out to make beats specifically for this, say spend no more than a day on them, and try to do about 5 that it would help my beat-making ability. I also have freestyle/write sessions with my friends every once in a while, and another beattape to rap over would be nice.

If we don't get enough interest then I'm not going to worry about it; and I don't necessarily want to organize it because I don't want to have to worry about which ones to put on/not put on and such, but if noone else wants to do it, I'll assume that responsibility.

So, if you're interested let me know what's up in this thread. I'm not going to worry about dates and things until it looks like we have enough interested people.

That mean you're in?

BTW everyone, if we actually do this, we'll need a name for the tape. Any ideas?

Why do we need to earn the 500 more respect?? If we are happy with it then who cares what other users think? 8)

That's not the sole purpose of this. If you don't want to be a part of this, that's cool, but I still would like to make a beattape with other 500 users. The 500's limitations kind of force me to make simpler beats, and I think that style is best suited for a beattape where tracks change every minute or so.

Cool. Once we start getting more people in, we'll decide deadlines and thing like that (I'm not going to be strict on these by any means, but we should still have guidelines).

I was thinking we should incorporate 500 into the title, but I haven't thought about it yet. And I don't know if we should theme our beats, feel free to submit whatever, but I'm just going to provide some stoney boom-bap and I think everyone should just submit whatever they want.

:?: what?

Glad to see more people down on this. I'm cool with calling it 500, unless anyone else has a suggestion. If anybody wants to mix it, do scratches or do artwork give a shout. We're probably better off with someone aside from me doing those 3, but I could mix it if needed though.

I don't know if I'm ready to be in... I just got my 500 for a week and a half and it's my first MPC. But I'd love to be part of the project if I manage to produce good beats soon enough...

We could call the project "500 Years" (dedication to "400 Years" from Bob Marley) or "500 BPM" or "500 or Nothing" or "Got Yourself a 500", etc...

But I think that we should definitely try to do something great with some masterpiece beats if we want the project to be worth something. I do not think that putting 1 minute short beats that are not our best works is not a good idea, it won't be motivating enough I think.

just one problem, how do you upload beats...?

and avout the cover, just pick the movie poster of 300, schange the 3 into a 5 and put the names of the artists on it... easy...?
