MPC500 with Korg Micro-X 2nd instrument problems

I'm aware that you have to go into Track Perams and change it to Track Type Midi through the first channel. But everytime I try to change to a different sound in my keyboard it changes. How do I get multiple instruments in my beats? Also, something that's always bothered me is how do you get a blank sequence with no internal sounds?

I suppose it has something to do with midi channels. I mean, the MicroX may send program change command or something into your MPC500 (I didn't quite get what the situation is, by the way, from your description). Well, maybe disconnecting the midi cable before assigning the channels and stuff could help. Try assigning midi channels to tracks in MPC first, write down what the channels are, assign channels to patches in MicroX then connect the midi cable, but don't move the jog wheel on MicroX as it will change everything again. The second option is to make MicroX a slave device in your midi setup, so it won't send any midi signal, only receive. You can use it first to record the midi sequences into tracks in MPC, while auditioning the recording with some basic piano sound in it for example, then switch the synth to the slave mode and wire the midi signal up as I suggested above. Then it won't change anything in the MPC and just work as a sound module.
