Layering??

I want to start layering my sounds to produce "better" sounds, and i just can't figure it out. I've searched the forums on here, and the closest that I've found is to assign multiple sounds to one pad. But, on my 500, I've tried that and it just erases the sound that I had on their before. I would really appreciate someone telling me how. Maybe I'm on the right track, but there is just a step I'm missing. I've been at this for about a week and a half now...and I just cant find the answer. Thanks!!

Man, you should try the following:

In program mode go to sample assign screen. It shall look like this:

Sample assign A
A1:L1:Sample name

Now move cursor to that L1 left of the sample name and turn the data wheel to the right. L1 changes for L2. Sample name should disappear. That's the second layer of your Pad A1. Now assign a different sample from what's on the 1st layer and play the pad.

And read the part of the manual which is about programs, man. You may make some pleasant discoveries

Also once you get down basic layering, try detuning one of 2 identical layerd samples a little for a nice fattening unison effect (good for bass sounds).

You can also create chords bij layering 3 or 4 sounds and tuning every sample, you can even play these in 12 levels mode

The MPC500 has a lot of tricks up its sleave, have fun...

WOW!! Thanks guys! Both of you! I guess I was just skipping over that part in my manual. I starting think that that "L1" stood for "Layer1", but wasn't sure. Now I Know. Thanks guys!! I appreciate it a whole bunch!

Remember to resample the sounds to get more polyphony.
